Successful maintenance shutdown for an offshore production platform

SEW Energy carefully prepared and successfully executed a major maintenance shutdown on a production platform for a key offshore client. The entire process, from preparation to completion, took approximately twelve months.

SEW Energy carefully prepared and successfully executed a major maintenance shutdown on a production platform for a key offshore client. The entire process, from preparation to completion, took approximately twelve months.

The project had a broad scope, encompassing repairs, inspection support, and complex welding work on vessels and piping. The biggest challenge was preparing all work orders completely and on time, ensuring offshore execution could proceed within the tight schedule.

SEW Energy was involved from the work preparation phase through to the delivery and restart of the platform. After the kickoff, a multidisciplinary project team was assembled to flexibly respond to all project needs.

The team consisted of:

  • Project management

  • Project engineering

  • Offshore supervision & work preparation

  • Logistics

  • Material coordination on- and offshore

  • 3D scanning & pipe engineering

  • Prefabrication

  • QHSE

During the preparation phase, multiple site visits were conducted, and complex piping was pre-scanned in 3D and largely prefabricated in the in-house workshop. During implementation, work was carried out from a jack-up barge, with insulation, inspections, PSV replacement, and installation of prefabricated piping all carried out in parallel. Despite unforeseen circumstances, flexible adjustments were made in close consultation with the client to minimize the impact on the schedule.

Project size & teams

Number of hours per discipline:

  • Project management: 400 hours

  • Work preparation: 1,750 hours

  • Prefabrication: 3,100 hours

  • Mechanical mounting: 18,885 hours

Offshore occupation:

  • Peak force: approx. 32 people simultaneously

  • Consisted of a day shift and a night shift of approximately 8 people

The result

Thanks to the dedication, flexibility, and expertise of all teams involved, the maintenance shutdown was carried out safely, in a controlled manner, and in accordance with applicable quality and safety standards. The tight coordination between onshore and offshore activities and close collaboration with the client resulted in an efficient and manageable execution.

With this project, SEW Energy has once again proven to be a reliable partner for complex multidisciplinary offshore maintenance campaigns.
